The
Station Fire Memorial Design Search began with much anticipation.
Phase I of the search was completed in October. At the end of
Phase I, the Station Fire Memorial Foundation received three designs
for the permanent memorial.
The
three designs were displayed to families during the “Walk
to Remember” as well as during an open meeting held in October.
Those who attended these events were given an opportunity to choose
their favorite design, as well as let SFMF know which aspects
of each design they would like to see in a permanent memorial.
Design choices and ideas written down and given to SFMF.
SFMF
was not surprised at the overwhelming popularity for the best
design. We were surprised, however, that the ideas shared as to
what should be added or changed in this design were all very similar.
SFMF took every idea into consideration.
Once
the input was gathered, and the design chosen, SFMF met with the
design’s contributors. The contributors were very excited
to have their design chosen, and to continue working with SFMF
to see the project through to completion. SFMF presented the ideas
for changes and additions, and all those that were feasible will
be used in the final design.
SFMF
would like to thank all the design contributors, and all those
who participated in providing their input for the proposed memorial
designs. With the design concept chosen, we are one step closer
to achieving our goal of creating a lasting, permanent memorial.
