5 Years Later, Grief Still Fresh

Warwick, R.I. — She still gets that pit in her
stomach.
The
same gut-wrenching pain she felt five years ago.
Angela
Bogart first felt the rock in her stomach as she made
her way to The Station nightclub on Feb. 21, 2003. Her
mother had attended a concert the night before when
a devastating fire ripped through the club. She tried
unsuccessfully to call her mother in Preston and learned
that she had never shown up for work that morning.
“That's
when I knew,” said Bogart, 24, of New London...read

WARWICK, R.I. — Under cloudy skies Sunday, survivors,
family members and friends solemnly marked the fifth
anniversary of The Station nightclub fire — a
blaze that killed 100 people, including several SouthCoast
residents.
But
there was also hope at the chilly outdoor ceremony on
the grounds where the nightclub once stood for a permanent
memorial to honor the victims of the fire, the fourth
deadliest in U.S. history...read

WEST
WARWICK — At the site where flame and smoke stole
100 lives five years ago, there may eventually be a sculpture
garden, a meandering path, and a 100-string wind harp
set into an entry bridge.
And
where a night of horror ended in ash and dust at the Station
nightclub on Feb. 20, 2003, a stream fed by a “ripple
pool” will add a contemplative note to individual
commemorative gardens, a courtyard and a timber-framed
“meeting house.”..read

WEST
WARWICK, R.I. - It is a place of extraordinary sorrow,
a circle of 100 wooden crosses commemorating each person
who perished in one of the worst fires in American history.
For five years, loved ones and friends of those who died
in the mad panic inside The Station nightclub that cold
February night have tended a makeshift memorial on this
barren lot where the club once stood. They have kept memories
of the victims alive with poignant mementos including
stuffed animals, baseball cards, and strings of beads...read
